Morse code, developed in the 1830s and 1840s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail, represents letters, numbers, and punctuation marks through a series of dots (short signals) and dashes (long signals). Originally used for telegraph communication, Morse code played a major role in maritime communication, aviation, military operations, and emergency signaling, especially with the well-known distress signal “SOS” (... --- ...).
